25th Annual César Chávez Day!

Free and family friendly Marcha and Fiesta

Join us in honoring the life and legacy of César Chávez at the 25th annual César Chávez Day celebration in Albuquerque, with a march—La Marcha de Justicia—beginning at 10:30 AM at the National Hispanic Cultural Center and ending at noon on the Center’s Plaza Mayor. Following the march, the family fiesta includes food, poetry, dancing, community exhibits, children’s activities and games, and a free concert by La Tropa Felizz, Danny Valdez and Baracutanga!

We are very excited to welcome the legendary Dolores Huerta as our guest of honor and keynote speaker!

We are also proud to welcome actor/composer/musician/activist Danny Valdez, a founding member of El Teatro Campesino, to share his experiences as a member of the United Farm Workers (UFW).

 

Schedule:
10:30 AM – Line up for march, National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC)

10:45 AM – March for Justice starts; we will march 2 miles north on 4th St., west on Silver St., and south on 8th St. – bring your signs and banners!

12:00 PM – Arrive back at NHCC

12:00 PM – Blessing by Ollin Xochipilli Danza Azteca

12:15 PM – Welcome Remarks by Rebecca Avitia (Executive Director, NHCC)

12:20 PM – Las Mañanitas, Voces de Coronado

12:30 PM – Filipino Cultural Group

Free and family friendly Marcha and Fiesta

March with Dolores Huerta, civil rights leader and co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union, to honor the life and legacy of her partner, César Chávez.

After La Marcha de Justicia, we will celebrate at our annual Fiesta with a Kid's Corner, food, music, dancing, information booths, and lots of fun!

The Kid's Corner will have arts and crafts, games, and a piñata for your children and grandchildren.

We will honor the 2017 César Chávez and the Dolores Huerta ¡Sí Se Puede! awardees: Rosa Cervantes and Enrique Cardiel - leaders who have served our community.

At 9:00 a.m., we start off the day with a ceremony honoring New Mexico's very own Dolores Huerta. Bernalillo County is renaming "South Valley Gateway Park" the "Dolores Huerta Gateway Park."

At 10:30 a.m., La Marcha de Justicia steps off from Dolores Huerta Gateway Park. At 10:50 we will be joined by more marchers from the National Hispanic Cultural Center (8th St. and Bridge).

At 12 p.m., the Fiesta begins when we return to the NHCC Plaza Mayor. Dolores Huerta is our Keynote Speaker. Music by Kiko Villamizar and Calle 66!
